Dear brothers and sisters of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network,

With deep sadness and astonishment, we share the news of the passing of Fr. Alberto Irenus SJ, who served as the National Director for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, as well as the Continental Coordinator of the PWPN for the entire Asia-Pacific region. This news fills us with sorrow.

Fr. Alberto was scheduled for surgery on September 12, 2025, due to a broken valve in his heart. However, on September 10, another damaged valve was discovered, possibly due to a bacterial infection. His kidneys and lungs were already infected. Before the doctors could intervene, they realized that his heart was not responding to the heavy dose of medication. CPR was performed every hour, but sadly, his heart began to fail. An hour later, the doctors informed us that his heart was deteriorating and not responding. They explained that it would be better to let him go in peace.

Fr. Alberto left us at 10:35 AM on September 11, 2025, at the University of Malaya Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur. We place our beloved Fr. Alberto into the Heart of Jesus, whom he loved so much.

Let us unite in a prayer of thanksgiving for everything we received through this precious friend and apostle of the Lord. Now we have another loving intercessor in heaven for our mission of compassion.
